ACCEPT – ALLOW – AGREE (Online)

Reflecting on Diversity in the Arts Featuring Queer Perspectives

ONLINE WORKSHOPS
27. APR / 25. MAI / 22. JUN | 5.00 pm — 8.00 pm
ACCEPT — ALLOW — AGREE

ACCEPT — ALLOW — AGREE is a project promoting diversity in the arts — in art production and exhibition, experience and mediation, art documentation and communication, art criticism and research via a transdisciplinary exchange, collective evaluation, and further discussions.

In our diverse societies, we consider it important to promote interest, knowledge, and competencies for living and working with people and groups with diverse backgrounds, various perspectives, and dynamic identities. As artists and curators, art historians and social scientists, cultural producers, and activists we wish to reflect jointly on diversity policies in the arts and further them.

We wish to reduce and dissolve the impact of ableism, racism, sexism, and all forms of discrimination. We wish to develop and improve policies in arts, audiences, art criticism, and research to respond to the missing presence and visibility of discriminated perspectives. We wish to enhance our diversity-sensitive orientation as part of quality orientation and future practice in the arts. We do not aim for new niche programs but rather cultural spaces for negotiation and representation of these diverse realities.

INITIATED BY A TRANSDISCIPLINARY SET OF PROFESSIONALS

The interest in a more in-depth discussion arose while preparing for the public art project .KUNST.LABOR.STADT.PLATZ in Marburg.de. In an exchange with local art projects, art institutions, and art services discussions within the hosting network AG KUNST as well as with a dedicated working group named Queer Art Marburg (AG QAM) led to the ambition to improve policies for visibility, interaction, and representation of queer perspectives in the arts. The framework of ACCEPT — ALLOW — AGREE responds to the identified needs and accompanies the ongoing activities of the city’s jubilee MARBURG800.

INSPIRED BY ROUNDTABLES

For ACCEPT — ALLOW — AGREE we wish to gather artists, curators, critics, and researchers to talk about the theory and praxis of diversity-sensitive approaches. We are looking for like-minded fellows who would like to share and contribute to the discussion process. As the curatorial collective of .KUNST.LABOR.STADT.PLATZ we offer a framework, we will share our expertise and experience, and hope for others that would like to do so, too.

MEETING ONLINE AND ONSITE IN MARBURG

We will start with online meetings in April and will provide a framework to meet once a month during the summer. In the program of .KLSP there will also be art mediation events, such as the DIVERSITY VISITS onsite in Marburg. They adress queer perspectives in the arts, in local museums and the university collection of the museum of religions.

PROJECTS LANGUAGE: ENGLISH

The main language of the activities will be English due to the various language backgrounds of the fellows.
